Mathew began his journey with the Air
Training Corps in 2000 when he moved to London from the North
with his family joining 94 (Feltham) Squadron as an eager new
recruit. Mathew stayed at 94 (Feltham) Squadron until he turned
20 reaching the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer. As a Cadet Mathew
gained his Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, gained a
BTEC in Aviation Studies, completed a gliding scholarship, attended
several leadership courses, many UK camps and was the Squadron
Training Officer for a couple of years.
When Mathew turned 20 he became a Civilian Instructor. However,
in January 2007 Mathew became a P rison Officer within Her Majesty's
Prison Service working with young challenging individuals. This
meant that he took a temporary step back from the Air Cadet
Organisation to concentrate on his chosen career in the early
months.
Currently Mathew is still responsible for the discipline standards
in the squadron which includes uniform and drill (marching)
standards also. Mathew is also the Squadron’s Training
Officer which means he is responsible for creating a training
program for the whole squadron ensuring that the cadets are
kept interested. Finally Mathew is currently a qualified Range
Officer meaning that he can supervise cadets shooting target
rifles under controlled conditions.
